Still alive! - A status update

Posted by jamie at 9:20 PM. May 11

Firstly, apologies for the long delay between posts and thanks for all the comments we have had so far.

We are still aiming for a summer beta launch (albeit late summer) and can finally reveal a few of the features that should make it in to the initial beta:

  • Elegant, clean interface
  • Single and multi user options
  • General GTD processes including the assignment of actions to contexts and projects etc.
  • Ticketing system for clients which can then be processed into projects/actions
  • Multi-views of projects/contexts/actions e.g. next action for each project/context, complete project etc.
  • Post-dated projects that only appear when they need to be processed
  • Inbox/collection pool for collection data/tickets for processing
  • Mobile access via any web enabled device
  • Text scaling for easy viewing of lists
  • Calendar with iCal feed support on context or project basis
  • Client/contact lists which can be attached to projects
  • Inbox/ticket attachments
  • Global text search
  • Templated projects for common action lists
  • RSS feeds
  • Unobtrusive Ajax enhancements
  • Sub-projects
  • Print-friendy style sheets allowing paper syncing
  • Toggle between an actions context or project
  • Quick action creation without over-complex forms
  • Start and due dates for both projects and actions
  • Easy reordering of actions
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Recurring projects/actions
  • Project and action reminders

Please keep the features/requirements comments coming as it is helping us to build a clear picture of the most important features.

Well … December became February became July becomes Late summer … vaporware? Sorry, I can’t wait another year – will look for other possibilities. Good luck anyway! Bye, -Radi.

I wrote my own gtd app in rails. Took me about a week but it does what I need. When propelr comes out, I’ll probably switch because it will have more features.

I will be with you to the bloody end. I love to see GTD dreams come to fruition and can only wish you the very best as you roll out your design. I suspect that your app will be a thing of beauty and simplicity, like your web pages. I was using Thinking Rock app which rocks but the fonts are so small it’s just not worth the effort. So, meanwhile I’ll chill for a bit and use the hipster pda approach until someone like you brings a new “baby” into the world! Bon Chance, gang! Paul

Radi: I can understand the frustration, we all want to see it release, but only when it’s ready.

Anthony: Don’t worry, Propel’r won’t just be another todo list maker.

    Paul: Thanks for the support.

So you think there’ll be a bloody end … :-)
    Sorry, couldn’t resist!

Any estimate on the release date? (Or at least a beta?)

  7. Jamie Hill June 23, 2007 at 1:02 AM

Adam: We are currently looking at a Sept/Oct release.

Mobile access via the mobile web is fine, but any chance of a downloadable Java app to make access quicker and more convinient from smartphones?

At the very least, it would be great to have a way to quickly email yourself items into your inbox or specific todo lists.

Ien: We will be looking at offline access down the road. Also we will be implementing a way to ‘collect’ by sending to a personalized email address or by setting up pop3 within Propel’r to automatically pull in mail from your mail account.
